Solo travellers will be roomed with another solo traveller of the same gender in a twin or triple room, or can upgrade to a solo room by paying the single supplement. The best time to visit depends on your preferences and the region you plan to explore. For a more tranquil experience, consider the shoulder seasons of April, May, September, and October when you can enjoy pleasant weather and fewer crowds. Keep in mind that diving and surfing enthusiasts should check specific regions and seasons for their preferred activities. It’s crucial to research the climate of your intended destination and stay informed about local events and holidays that might impact your travel plans.

Money Matters

Money matters in Indonesia are relatively straightforward for travelers. The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), and it’s advisable to carry some cash in small denominations for minor expenses, as many smaller businesses and local markets may not accept credit cards. ATMs are widely available in cities and tourist areas, making it easy to withdraw cash in IDR using international debit or credit cards. However, it’s a good idea to inform your bank about your travel plans to avoid any potential issues with card transactions. Credit cards like Visa and Mastercard are generally accepted in larger hotels, restaurants, and retail establishments, especially in more touristy areas. Tipping in Indonesia is appreciated but not mandatory. In restaurants, a 10% service charge is often added, but if not, leaving a 5-10% tip is customary. In smaller eateries, rounding up the bill is appreciated. For hotel staff, tour guides, and drivers, a tip of IDR 10,000 to 100,000 is appropriate based on the service provided.
